The Leadership Opportunity
As Country Director, you will:
✔ Steer one of CARE’s largest country programs ($94M annual budget)
✔ Shape Ethiopia’s development agenda through government/UN partnerships
✔ Champion gender equality in program design and operations
✔ Ensure operational excellence across 50+ concurrent projects
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership (40%)
- Develop/implement 5-year country strategy aligned with CARE’s 2030 vision
- Maintain relationships with 50+ partners (UN agencies, NGOs, private sector)
- Represent CARE at national policy forums
Program & Financial Oversight (30%)
- Ensure 100% donor compliance for all projects
- Manage multi-million dollar grants (USAID, EU, UNOCHA)
- Lead risk mitigation in complex operating environments
Team Management (20%)
- Supervise 12 senior managers and 1,300 national staff
- Foster gender-balanced, inclusive workplace culture
- Implement staff wellness programs
Resource Mobilization (10%)
- Grow portfolio by $15M+/year through new funding streams
- Cultivate private sector partnerships
